The New York City Charter School Center recently announced the official launch of the Common Online Charter School Application for the 2019-2020 school year. More than 227 NYC charter schools participated in the launch, with more still joining, allowing New York City families to easily apply to multiple charters schools through one online portal.

“Navigating New York City’s enrollment processes can be a daunting task. The Common Online Charter School Application makes it easy for parents to find and apply to charter schools they think will best suit their child’s needs,” said James Merriman, CEO of the Charter Center. “More and more families are opting for high-quality charter schools in NYC and the common application helps make a good education accessible to all students.”

This year, the Common Online Application launched one month earlier to coincide with the City’s enrollment process and enable families to apply during open house season. Families can easily apply through online or mobile platforms to multiple schools listed by distance from their child’s address. The application is offered in 10 different languages including English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Urdu, Bengali, Korean and Russian.

The common application does not affect applications to district school programs and is open until 12:00 midnight on Monday, April 1, 2019.

The Common Online Charter School Application is popular with parents – over 140,000 applications were submitted to participating charter schools for the 2018-2019 school year.
