EastNewYork.com launch event kicked off with great fanfare on December 22 in the beautiful new gallery at Arts East New York. Business owners, entrepreneurs, real estate professionals, artists and executives from community based organizations gathered to celebrate the premiere online space for all things East New York.

“This was a great kickoff event”, stated Vernon Jones, Sr., the CEO of JIG Media, the company that owns EastNewYork.com, “we are happy to collaborate with Catherine Green, by having this event at her art gallery. Green’s Arts ENY organization is doing great work in the community and it was only fitting to launch EastNewYork.com at the gallery.”

Guests dined on cuisine from Fusion East restaurant, a tasting menu of jerk wings, cod fish cakes among others, all of which got rave reviews. Fusion East owner, Andrew Walcott, was on hand for the occasion.

But the entertainment was the highlight of the evening. Wade Watson, an alumni of PATHS Dance program at Thomas Jefferson HS Campus, and now a professional dancer with the Elisa Monte Dance Company in New York City, treated the crowd to a solo performance. The audience also enjoyed song, dance and poetry  by students and local artists, including City the King, who is featured as part of the #IAMEASTNEWYORK initiative.

Lifelong East New York resident, Deidra Towns, daughter of former Congressman, Ed Towns, is the Content Manager of EastNewYork.com. “East New York is a neighborhood with undiscovered great depth of resources and talent. I’m looking forward to curating and sharing our jewels on this new platform.”

“We want EastNewYork.com to be the go-to place for digital media when it comes to positive news and information coming out of East New York”, Jones added. “We brought on editors and writers who care about the progress of East New York, and eager to get information out to residents that will help them stay in the community, as gentrification threatens their existence.”

On this evening, the owners of EastNewYork.com kicked off the #IAMEASTNEWYORK campaign. Throughout the evening attendees took photos with their EastNewYork.com hats and repeated “I Am East New York”. The idea behind the campaign is to show the rest of New York City that there are a lot of people from East New York, who are doing great things.

There are Membership opportunities for non-profit organizations, businesses, retailers and political organizations. Member organizations and businesses can post their events, news, announcements, sales, job openings, and more, directly onto the EastNewYork.com platform. Fusion East restaurant, ArtsENY and LDC/ENY have already become Members of EastNewYork.com, and it looks like Applebee’s will be the next Member to join.
