The Local Development Corporation of East New York and the Business & Career Center at Brooklyn Public Library are hosting a Black History event entitled A History of Black Business in America: A Panel Discussion on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The event will take place in the Dweck Auditorium at the Brooklyn Public Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza.
The focus of the discussion is to educate and inform the audience about the historical contributions black businesses have made to the U.S. economy and how the prominence of their existence emerged during and after chattel slavery in America. More importantly, the discussion will provide dialogue about the future of black business particularly in light of the new administration.
Moderating the discussion is Celeste Morris, founder of MorrisAllsop Public Affairs and the Big Black Book. Panelists include: Vera Moore, CEO of Vera Moore Cosmetics; Hon. Robert E. Cornegy, Jr., Chair of the Small Business Committee in NYC Council (36th District); Dr. Arthur Lewin, Professor in Black and Latino Studies Department at Baruch College and author of Africa is Not A Country, It’s A Continent; Richard Flateau, founder of Flateau Realty Corp. and Chair of the Bedford Stuyvesant Real Estate Board, and Courtney A. Bennett representing the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.
A great addition to the program, provided by Opera Exposures, is the talented Alicia Waller, Soprano.
