The Brooklyn Comedy Collective held its third annual Fun and Dumb Improv Festival from July 11 through July 14, where comedy lovers got a chance to see some 600 performers on three stages.
Founded by Philip Markle in 2018, the collective hosts three festivals every year. The Fun and Dumb Improv Festival packs the performances between four nights on three different stages; two at Eris, a bar and theater in East Williamsburg, and another at the Pig Pen, a performance space a few blocks away.
Eris was packed on opening night, as drinks were served and the crowd ready to laugh. The festival is nonstop, with each performance lasting around an hour. Festival attendees always have a different experience around the corner.
This year, the festival kicked off with a performance by the Ladies Who Ranch, an all-female Improv group. Later that night, a performance featured Chloe Troast, the newest cast member from Saturday Night Live. And at the same time, a group of The Daily Show writers were riffing on a different stage downstairs.
The Brooklyn Comedy Collective is an alternative comedy theater and school that prides itself on inclusion, risk-taking and fair pay for its performers.
When not in festival mode, the collective hosts over 24 shows a week between Tuesday and Sunday nights. They also offer a wide variety of improv, sketch and stand-up classes.
