Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet (JGCO) presents ‘REMEMBERING’ at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) Fisher Fishman Space on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 18 at 3:00 p.m.

REMEMBERING is a multimedia program featuring dance, theater and video projection and includes the premiere of the finale Thank You. Tickets are $100 for Supporting Creative Outlet artists and $30 for general admission and are on sale and available online HERE, at BAM’s Box Office at Ashland Place and Lafayette Avenue, or by calling 718.636.4100 ext. 1.

REMEMBERING is an annual program created by JGCO that celebrates Black History and is inspired by “The MAAFA Suite,” and the teachings of Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood. This year’s performance commemorates the 60th anniversary of Revered Dr. Martin Luther King’s March on Washington and historic” I Have a Dream” speech, and recognizes the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama. The work is set to music by John Williams, Philip Hamilton and BeBe Winans.

“REMEMBERING explores the historical accounts of the Middle Passage, slavery and emancipation,” said Founder and Artistic Director Jamel Gaines. “Audiences will experience American History told by African voices, lacing contemporary and African dance with audio-visual elements including spoken word, music and African drumming.”

Each year, NYC public school students are invited to experience REMEMBERING through JGCO’s School Time Performances. This year, more than 3,000 students will have an opportunity to learn Black History by seeing excerpts of the work and lecture demonstrations.

REMEMBERING features 12 dancers with lighting designed by Gregory L. Dratva, costumes by Hopie Lynn Burrows, video projections by multimedia artists Talu Green and Thera Ward, and imagery by Tom Feelings.
