11th Annual Urban Arts Festival Taking Place at Bed-Stuy Restoration May 22nd in Partnership With Honeybaked Ham and Restoration Art

Urban Arts Partnership partners with NYC Title 1 schools to celebrate the artistic and academic achievements of 3,500 youth, teachers and community members at the historic Restoration Plaza in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. (See the flyer below)

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018– Student and community workshops start at 1PM and the  evening show co-hosted by Brooklyn’s own, Gbenga Akinnagbe from The Wire,  starts at 6:00pm in the Billie Holiday Theater. Free and open to the public

This year, Urban Arts Partnership (UAP) will be hosting it’s 11th annual Urban Arts Festival, which will host approximately 30 NYC schools at the historic Restoration Plaza, in partnership with Restoration Art and Honeybaked Ham. Students will perform in the Billie Holiday Theater and outdoor Amphitheater space, showcase visual art work in the Skylight Gallery and host a student arcade with games created by students in UAP’s game design program.

This year’s theme is “Our Story, Our Voice”, which will act as a campaign to engage the NYC community to experience the stories of our students throught the arts. Urban Arts Partnership believes that our youth and schools are rich with talent and knowledge. Urban Arts Partnership believes that empowering young people to follow in the legacy of artistic greats is a life-changing experience. As a result, this breeds a creative confidence that is the key to engaging and inspiring young people to succeed in school.

Urban Arts Partnership was founded 26 years ago in response to the Crown Heights riots in 1991 with the goal of bringing together the community to address racial issues through theater arts. Today, UAP is the largest arts education provider in New York City, training 750 teachers in over 70 schools and reaching 8,000 students annually through innovative and creative programs including coding, dance, filmmaking, music, poetry, test prep, theater & the visual arts.
