Hon. Jacqueline D. Williams, an Acting Supreme Court Justice in Kings County and a veteran Family Court Judge, has begun her official campaign for Kings County Supreme Court. Her announcement signals a significant milestone in her almost 25 years devoted to Brooklyn’s legal community and public service.
A Lifelong Brooklynite Dedicated to Justice
Originally born at March Air Force Base in California during her father’s military service in Vietnam, Williams grew up in Brooklyn, surrounded by her Panamanian heritage and a close-knit neighborhood.
Her academic pursuits took her from Yale University, where she majored in history and specialized in Caribbean and Latin American Affairs, to UC Berkeley School of Law, where she was editor for the African American Law Journal.
From the Civil Court Bench to Supreme Court Justice
Williams began as a Principal Court Attorney under the Hon. Bernadette Bayne, where she built a foundation in the legal system.
She went on to win a seat on the Civil Court in 2006, facilitating both civil and criminal cases.
In 2014, she was appointed to the Kings County Family Court.
She presided over child welfare and juvenile justice matters, demonstrating her values of combining responsibility with empathy in her courtroom decisions.
Serving as an Acting Supreme Court Justice since 2015, Williams is renowned for her analytical skills, legal expertise, and equitable handling of complex litigation.
“Brooklyn is my community, my foundation,” she stated. “I approach every case with respect, fairness, and a deep sense of justice.”
Supporting the Community and Justice for All
Judge Williams’s dedication goes beyond the courtroom. She has planned events like Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month at the courts and strives to mentor local youth.
As part of the Lions Club, she has participated in events at the United Nations, and remains involved through her church and conducting Yale alumni interviews.
“For me, justice is about more than legal decisions—it’s about creating faith in our institutions and inspiring the next generation,” she reflected.
As her General Election campaign unfolds, Judge Williams pledges unyielding integrity, fairness, and understanding to Brooklyn, ensuring that justice reaches those who need it most.
