Celebrating Five Decades of Service in East New York
NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York commemorated its 50th year last week with a festive gathering at 2094 Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn. The celebration welcomed local officials, residents, patients, and families to honor the center’s legacy, recognize its current influence, and envision the advancement of healthcare in East New York.
Established in 1974 under the name East New York Neighborhood Family Care Center, the facility was part of a city initiative to improve healthcare availability in underserved communities and address major health inequities. Its founding mission was explicit: deliver essential primary care to residents who otherwise lacked access to medical services.
Through the years, the center expanded and became the East New York Diagnostic and Treatment Center, broadening its offerings to include both general and specialized care. In 2015, the center joined the NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health system, updating its name to align with a promise of comprehensive, excellent, and affordable healthcare for every New Yorker.
Expanded Offerings and Cutting-Edge Technology
Gotham Health, East New York evolves with community needs today. The center provides advanced radiology services, such as 3D mammography, ultrasound, and X-ray, which are part of a system-wide effort to bring state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging to local neighborhoods. These enhancements are designed to offer faster and more accurate diagnoses, resulting in better patient care while minimizing travel to outside clinics.

The center offers a comprehensive list of services, such as Primary Care, Family Practice, Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Behavioral Health, Dentistry, Podiatry, Optometry, the WIC Program, and Radiology. Having these services in one place ensures East New York residents receive timely and coordinated care near home.
