East New York Voting Guide — Who to Vote for in the 2025 Primary Elections and Who NOT to Vote for

Posted By Sandy Whitaker

East New York can determine who will win or lose in the Primary Election. Below is a list of candidates who will provide support to East New York. As East New York News, whose founder grew up in Brownsville and East New York,  we care about which candidates will be best for the community of East New York. For candidates who have never done anything for East New York, have never been to East New York, or maybe they do not even know where East New York is located, do yourself a favor and keep them off your ballot, at any choice. Stop supporting people who will never support YOU.

East New York is an important voting area for any candidate who wants a major Black voting bloc. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Your vote is crucial to citywide races.

Tuesday, June 24 | Polls Open 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM

The 2025 Primary Elections are here. If you live in East New York, your vote can help elect candidates who will truly support the neighborhood.

These are the candidates who have shown through their presence, work, and commitment that they will stand with East New York.

If a race is marked as “Does Not Matter,” it means the candidates on the ballot have not demonstrated that they will benefit East New York.

Mayor:  Does Not Matter – Wait for the General Election

The “Does Not Matter” distinction means that none of the candidates on the Primary ballot will support East New York. Mayor Eric Adams will be running in the General Election as an Independent and has done more for East New York than anyone currently on the Primary ballot.  Don’t get fooled by the rhetoric. This man has supported the community of East New York with funds and he knows East New York. No other candidate in the Mayoral race knows East New York or cares about East New York.  Don’t just “give” them your vote, knowing that they don’t like you and will not do anything for you.  That has to stop. For this race, the best option is to wait and vote in the General Election. If you absolutely must vote in the Primary because you want your vote “to count” in some way, then vote for Adrienne Adams. The others will never step foot in East New York. They do not care about our East New York community.

Comptroller:  Kevin Parker

Kevin Parker is the only candidate who has likely spent real time in East New York. He knows the community and its needs, and will advocate for us as Comptroller.  Justin Brannan might be ok for the #2 ranking. He has supported some East New York initiatives.

City Council District 42:  Chris Banks

Chris Banks is an East New York native who continues to fight for the neighborhood. He understands the issues because he lives them, and he is committed to delivering for residents.

Brooklyn Borough President:  Khari Edwards

Khari Edwards knows East New York and its people. His connection to the community will make him a strong advocate for East New York at the borough level. From all signs it seems that Reynoso does not care about East New York, and if you are an educator the UFT President made statements about how Reynoso has not been supportive of teachers at all, and has been invisible when they reach out. In East New York, education is crucial.

Public Advocate:  Jumaane Williams

Jumaane Williams has a long history of being active in East New York. He understands the challenges and opportunities in the neighborhood and will continue to fight for the community citywide.

Kings County Judicial Candidates:  Janice Purvis and Janice Chen

Both Janice Purvis and Janice Chen have taken the time to come into East New York and meet directly with community members. The other two candidates in this race have not shown up in the neighborhood. And yes, you can vote for both of these candidates.
