Brooklyn voters will see two powerful voices for justice on the ballot this June. Janice Chen and Janice Purvis, both officially certified as candidates for Kings County Civil Court Judge. With each campaign powered by grassroots community support, Chen and Purvis are moving forward with a commitment to fairness, equity, and accessibility in the courtroom.
Importantly, Chen and Purvis are not running against each other, which means voters can cast their ballots for both candidates in this critical judicial race.
Janice Chen, a dedicated advocate for equity on the bench, secured her spot on the ballot with over 10,000 petition signatures. Chen said in a statement, “I’m deeply thankful to every Brooklynite who signed a petition, showed support, and invited me into your communities,” said Chen. “This campaign has always been about listening first — and I look forward to continuing to connect with Brooklynites in every part of the borough.”
Chen’s campaign is focused on being present in neighborhoods across Brooklyn, engaging in direct conversations, and reflecting the borough’s values of fairness, integrity, and equal treatment for all. Residents can get involved and stay informed at JaniceChenforCivilCourt.com.
Janice Purvis, who collected more than 11,000 signatures, credits the people of Brooklyn for making this milestone possible. In her media announcement Purvis thanked Brooklynites for helping her to get on the ballot. “Brooklyn — thank you,” said Purvis. “Your support means everything to me. From every street corner to community center, I’ve had the honor of hearing your hopes, your concerns, and your dreams for a fairer future. This campaign belongs to all of us.”
Purvis, known for her deep community roots and commitment to compassionate justice, is continuing to visit neighborhoods and host open discussions with residents across the borough. To learn more or join her campaign, visit JanicePurvisforJudge.com.
